According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds in the U.S., someone needs blood, and right now, we are experiencing a national shortage. Currently, blood supply levels are the lowest they have been in more than a decade, and dangerously low blood supply levels put patient care at risk. To help confront this national shortage, Washington Prime Group properties are hosting blood drives in their local communities.
At the end of last year, Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City, Iowa, hosted a blood donation event which exceeded their blood donation goal with a total of 118 donors—26 of those individuals were first-time donors. In total, 121 units of blood were collected, possibly saving 363 lives. Appointments filled up quickly, and the event was a major success. Another blood drive took place at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in January. The event, in partnership with Impact Life Blood, had nine first-time donors and collected 24 units of blood.
In addition to Southern Hills Mall and Lindale Mall, Scottsdale Quarter®, The Mall at Fairfield Commons, Northtown Mall, The Outlet Collection | Seattle®, Great Lakes Mall and Westminster® Mall also hosted blood drives. The giving continues as Edison Mall and New Towne Mall have blood drives planned in the coming weeks.
We are honored to provide donation opportunities at various properties to help our guests and colleagues save lives.
