Washington Prime Group properties celebrate Black History Month

Black History Month, which is celebrated every February, is an important month of remembrance, recognition, and education. During Black History Month and throughout the year, we acknowledge the impact of notable Black figures on our society and honor Black history, culture and achievements.

WPG’s properties celebrated Black History Month with their communities all month long, through events and spotlights like these:

  • Bowie Town Center hosted a KidX Club® Black History Month Storytime event at Barnes & Noble, where local author Brittany Mazique read her children’s book, “Delphine Denise and the Mardi Gras Prize.”
  • Town Center at Aurora hosted a Black History Month Fashion Show with special guest, former Blackstreet singer Lenny Harold, fashion from local designers, entertainment, kid’s activities, and more.
  • Edison Mall showcased a local Southwest Florida piece of history, McCollum Hall, which was a commercial center/dance hall that hosted musical icons like B.B. King, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong.
  • Several properties shined the spotlight on their Black owned small business tenants, including Shop My Business at Jefferson Valley Mall, ASE Essentials at Town Center at Aurora, Yin Yang Boutique at Melbourne Square Mall, and Sisters Unique Boutique at Great Lakes Mall, among others.

Washington Prime Group is proud to celebrate Black History Month. At the same time, we also recognize that we must continuously work together today to create a society that is equitable for all.
