wpg colleagues honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. through partnership with Seeds of Caring

Every January, we celebrate and honor the work, life, and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This national holiday reminds us to volunteer and give back to our communities and causes that matter to each of us. This year, wpg sponsored Seeds of Caring’s MLK Day of Youth Service celebration in Columbus, Ohio.

Our colleagues had the opportunity to volunteer or participate with their families. Participants assembled cleaning kits for recently housed neighbors, made breakfast kits for kids experiencing food insecurity, created sun catchers for senior friends to brighten their day and created art inspired by Dr. King’s legacy.

Volunteers helped run the stations throughout the day. Here’s what one wpg volunteer, Debbie Weakley, had to say about her experience:

“What I enjoyed the most was the little moments when the kids fully understood why they were packing meal kits. Their eyes would light up and they would ask, ‘You mean some kids don’t get to eat breakfast before they go to school?’ Then they would want to assemble more and more kits.”

The video below highlights some of the projects the kids created during the event.

Seeds of Caring is a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging young children in service, social action and community building. We look forward to partnering with Seeds of Caring for more giveback opportunities in 2025.
