In April, the Longview, Texas, community experienced a break in a 30-inch water main, causing low water pressure and a boil-water notice to be issued for all customers. The break in the water main took days to repair and left the community of Longview relying on water distribution centers for safe drinking water. With its large parking lots, Longview Mall became the perfect place to distribute water.
The water outage caused the mall to close temporarily, but the empty parking lots were put to good use with families and community members lining up to receive clean water. During the shortage, thousands of cases of water were distributed. As the extreme East Texas heat increased, Longview Mall employees offered umbrellas to city employees, fire, and police, to help provide shade.
After a few days, the city of Longview lifted the boil-water notice. The water break was fixed, and the water was safe to drink. Longview Mall is proud to lend a hand and support its local community.
